Personal Development Week

I needed a little kick in the butt. I decided this last week when I realized I had moved to Tucson with so many plans, and so much confidence, over a month ago. A whole month has gone by and I’ve only started a small fraction of the big projects I have in my head. When I looked at my calendar and realized this, I’m gonna be honest, I started feeling worse and worse about myself daily. I started doubting all the ideas, I started doubting myself. I fell into that trap for a few days, the whole time fighting with myself about what was wrong. I was happy. I was healthy. I was confident in my fiancé’s and my choice to move. Not to mention, I love the palm trees, mountains, and weather here.

It’s like putting together an elaborate puzzle sometimes, trying to decipher what the source of our suffering is. For this reason, I’m grateful we ended up having to move our Travel Trailer to a new RV Park last week. The energy of a new place, even though it was 5 minutes down the road, sparked my sleeping self-confidence and drive. The new move combined with practices I use to get myself through tough times, brought me back to life and got me going on the right track again! Back in the day, periods of feeling stuck and uninspired would last who knows how long, and killed who knows how many great ideas. I've learned a few things over the years, gotten a little wiser. So, last week I became my own motivator and created my own personal development challenge. The simple act of sharing my challenge on Instagram caused me to get excited and take action on my goals. After spending a week working on developing myself personally and professionally, I feel kind of amazing. So I wanted to share a few practices that I use, and that anyone can do to help pull themselves out of a rut or feeling stuck.

Schedule-

Give yourself a schedule and stick to it. Even a rough construct of what you plan to do with your day can help move you in whatever direction you’re trying to go. Even if your schedule looks something like- 8AM coffee and read, 9AM bike ride, 10AM make healthy breakfast.. stick to it! Feeling purposeful inspires confidence because having a schedule leaves less time for sitting around doubting yourself.

Write-

You don’t have to be a writer, a good speller, or a grammar queen. You don’t have to like writing or think of yourself as creative. You DO need to get your thoughts out of your head, and onto a paper. I love using the Notes app on my iPhone, personally. You can write in sentences, lists, bullet points, or paragraphs. Putting your negative or nagging thoughts down on paper will clear your head for more productive thoughts. Instead of clearing your inbox, imagine your brain zero-ed out to no notifications. This gives you the opportunity to leave your doubts on paper. If you don’t know where to start, writing down what you are grateful for does wonders for uplifting your mood and confidence.

Spend quiet time alone, every day-

Whether it is 3 minutes, or 3 hours, make the time to sit in silence. This can literally be done in you car before you head into the grocery store, anywhere you will be undisturbed while you practice. Just close your eyes for a few minutes and breath. Allow the peace of simply breathing to bring you back to the present moment, where everything is possible.

Hope this helps anyone else who tends to procrastinate, is feeling stuck in a rut, or if you’re just looking to bring some more peace and clarity in your life. As always, reach out with any questions or advice.

Gratitude & love always,

Kari
